FAQs
I charge a per-word rate for full-length manuscripts. This means the author knows the total cost upfront. While rates are shown in ZAR, clients may also pay in USD, GBP, or EUR at the exchange rate in effect on the date the contract is signed.
Manuscript assessments – ZAR 130 per thousand words.
Full edit, including one revision – starting at ZAR 450 per thousand words. The rate varies depending on the amount of work needed to polish the text to publishing standards.
Proofreading – ZAR 250 per thousand words.
Hourly rate – ZAR 650
For large projects, I ask for a booking deposit of 10% of the total cost to reserve a slot in my schedule. This is non-refundable if the manuscript is not delivered on time or if the project is cancelled.
Thereafter, 50% of the payment is due on delivery of the manuscript, and the balance is due on return of the edited files.
Yes. I’m happy to provide a sample edit of approximately 1 000 words from your
manuscript. I charge a small fee of R650 ($38) to cover my time, which will be
deducted from the total invoice if you use my services.
Definitely! I believe honouring the author’s voice is essential.
I suggest edits in the form of tracked changes and comments in the manuscript. It’s your book, so you’ll always have the final say on what feels right.
Absolutely! I serve both the author and the reader, so I’m perfectly positioned to give
feedback, keeping both your story and your target audience in mind.
No problem, I’ll be able to guide you. Just get in touch via email, and I’ll take a look
at your manuscript. Then we can discuss your goals and the best way to strengthen
your book.
A full edit of a book-length manuscript (70K words) can take around one month. Manuscript appraisals take approximately two weeks.
For editing, I work in MS Word – it has many advanced features that make the
editing process more efficient.
If you’re looking for proofreading of an already-edited typeset layout, I’ll need it as a PDF.
Of course! Each edit includes a minimum of one revision where queries are resolved.
Absolutely. I’ll guide you, and then edit the blurb and author bio at no extra cost.
Definitely. Dave Henderson, of MYeBook, will guide you smoothly through the self-
publishing process, providing ISBN, cover design, and layout for both print and
Amazon.
