As an author, you’re understandably close to your creation, so it’s always good to have an objective and professional opinion. My manuscript critiques provide detailed feedback on the structure of your book, its marketability, and its overall strengths and weaknesses. My goal is to advise you on ways to improve your story to produce a final product that will engage your target readers.
Developmental editing
Developmental editing takes a closer look at the overall structure of your story. Strong chapter openings, realistic characterisation, dialogue, and an effective conclusion, are just some of the important aspects of story craft. I can assist you in addressing these ‘big picture’ elements before moving on to the finer details.
Line editing
Correcting grammar, spelling, and punctuation is done during line editing, and consistency of style is applied throughout the book. I’ll do basic fact-checking and give attention to rhythm, repetition, and appropriate word choice. Your author’s voice will be respected and you are always free to reject any edit or suggestion you don’t agree with. After this stage, your manuscript is one step closer to being published!
Proofreading
Proofreading a final laid-out book in PDF is the essential last step before publishing. This process involves checking the text for any lingering errors that may have slipped through previous rounds of editing. Each page of the designed book will be checked for consistent formatting and headings, and also that the images are correctly displayed and captioned. After this step, your PDF will be ready for printing or digital distribution.
